So I am lagging a little behind on the blogging here, but thats only because South Africa is amazing and I have been getting caught up doing other things. Like walking in the rain forest! which has become a routine for a lot of students. Since I have been neglecting my blog I give a summary of what has been going on for the past few days since we departed from the U.S.
So we left for L.A.X early in the morning on Thursday Jan. 21. We then flew to Washington D.C. to get on an international plane to Johannesburg in South Africa. This flight took 17 hours! 17 hours! We had to stay on the plane for that long. It was not as bad as expected though because they fed us a lot haha and there were movies to watch. But still i think we were all happy to get off that plane when we landed. We then went to a little hotel in Jo-Burg, thats what the local people call it. we all got settled in and they gave us rand, African money, to go eat with. We went to this little pub next door where me and Jamie Hunter consumed a snail! yes a snail! After that we all went to sleep for we were pooped form traveling all day. The next day we had a tour of Soweto in Jo-Burg, where we saw many historical sights and went to apartheid museum. We ate lunch at our tour guides restaurant and had dance performance by the local kids. Man can they move! A little girl tried to get me to dance, but i don't have any rhythm compared to them. If any at all haha. Seeing how some of them live really made us all feel very very blessed with our lives back home. They were all so happy about their lives, even with the little they had.

After we went home, we were all so tired due to jet lag. We had our dinner at a little chicken place, and then played a mean game of egyptian rat screw before bed. It was such an amazing day to experience how these people in Soweto live and their culture. I am so excited to see what else we will learn about these lovely people. The next day we went to our campus and homes for the next three months! But I will have to talk about that a little later because it is breakfast time! But i promise i will get caught up do not fret!
